We asked for presidential veto

On 12th August 2024, together with Deystvie, we submitted a petition to the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev, to veto the divisive law against "LGBT propaganda" in Bulgarian schools. Among other things, it bans the mentioning of any "non-traditional" views in Bulgarian schools. The amendments in the law are a copy of a law passed in 2013 in Russia and are in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights.

The petition was signed by 76 NGOs and 7038 individuals - this is our success measured in numbers.

The President did not veto it, but the European Commission asked Bulgaria to explain the LGBT propaganda law. The amendments have been criticised by various human rights groups. The Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Michael O'Flaherty publicly announced that he was "deeply concerned" by the law passed by the Bulgarian parliament.

Campaigning agains this law is ongoing.
