Most often they are the first a person turns to for help and advice. In addition, over 50% of survivors who have successfully escaped a domestic violence situation report the key involvement of friends and relatives in logistical support. Believing that family and friends are vital allies in a survivor's journey to freedom and that their support can be transformative, the campaign, offers resources on how to support someone affected by domestic violence.&nbsp; &nbsp;The campaign highlight the following ways to help loved ones intervene promptly and effectively<ul><li>Active listening: people affected by domestic abuse often turn to their loved ones for validation and to share their experiences without fear of judgment.</li><li>Empathy: providing emotional support can enable someone to take steps to leave an abusive relationship&nbsp;</li><li>Empowerment - supporting them in taking back control, creating a sense of personal boundaries, the right to control their own destiny.</li></ul>The role of family and friends goes beyond immediate crisis intervention. The right word can save a life!

On 12th August 2024, together with Deystvie, we submitted a petition to the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev, to veto the divisive law against "LGBT propaganda" in Bulgarian schools. Among other things, it bans the mentioning of any "non-traditional" views in Bulgarian schools. The amendments in the law are a copy of a law passed in 2013 in Russia and are in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights.&nbsp;The petition was signed by 76 NGOs and 7038 individuals - this is our success measured in numbers.The President did not veto it, but the European Commission asked Bulgaria to explain the LGBT propaganda law. The amendments have been criticised by various human rights groups. The Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Michael O'Flaherty publicly announced that he was "deeply concerned" by the law passed by the Bulgarian parliament.&nbsp;Campaigning agains this law is ongoing.&nbsp;

15 March 2023To address the much needed changes in the Law for protection from domestic violence in Bulgaria we united 37 NGOs in a no-formal coalition "Together Against Violence". 15 март 2023На &nbsp;организирана от нас среща с бъдещи народни представители 37 неправителствени организации, обединени в Коалиция „Заедно срещу насилието“, призоваха политическите сили да се ангажират с приемането на нов Закон за домашното насилие.Представителите на гражданския сектор, сред които Фондация "Асоциация Анимус", Фондация П.У.Л.С., Български фонд за жените и ние, Фондация „Будителките“, прочетоха призив в настояване за спешни и неотложни действия по разглеждането и приемането на нов Закон за изменения и допълнения на Закона за защита от домашно насилие (ЗЗДН), веднага след конституирането на новия парламент на Република България.На срещата присъстваха представители на Коалиция „Продължаваме промяната – Демократична България“, сред които – Калина Константинова, Надежда Йорданова, Лена Бориславова и представители на политическа партия ГЕРБ, сред които – Анна Александрова и Рая Назарян. На срещата не присъстваха представители на ДПС, БСП, ИТН. United in NGO coalition "Together Against Violence"

&nbsp;1st February &nbsp;2024 &nbsp;The letter opened with:With this letter, we would like to inform you about real and actual problems in the implementation of the Law for protection from domestic violence (LPDV).lTh echanges to the law were passed by the 49th National Assembly on 21.07.2023 and 07.08.2023 after years of delay. &nbsp;The Bulgarian institutions were given a sufficiently long period of 6 months to allow the responsible ministries, institutions and state bodies to prepare and adapt the organisation of their activities to adopt the changes in the law.&nbsp; &nbsp;The amended &nbsp;Law came into power &nbsp;on 1st January 2024 and the changes had to work to fulfil its purpose, which is to provide prompt and effective protection, assistance and support to people affected by or at risk of domestic violence and to exercise a preventive and deterrent effect on the perpetrator of violence. &nbsp;These changes were aimed at improving the lives of victims of domestic violence. The delay in the adoption and implementation of these changes has cost the health and lives of many people. People affected by domestic violence &nbsp;continue to rely mainly on charities that have been working for years to support them.
